The Hyundai Elantra (sold in South Korea as the Avante) is a compact car from Hyundai of South Korea launched in 1991. The Elantra was formerly sold as the Lantra and the Avante in some Australian and European markets.
The Hyundai Elantra is an economic compact car with handsome styling and nice lines. It has excellent interior space and standard safety equipment.
The current generation Elantra can seat up to five and has very accommodating trunk space. It comes in two trim levels: GLS, SE, all of which use a 138-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Buyers have a choice between the standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmissions for each trim level.
Standard safety features on all Elantra models include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints.
For 2009, the SE trim receives a USB port, sport-tuned suspension, and sport shifter on the manual transmission.
